How to Develop a Growth Mindset: How the Right Mindsets Can Nurture Progress and Success
“I don’t divide the world into the weak and the strong, or the successes and the
failures… I divide the world into the learners and non-learners.” – Benjamin Barber
These words ring true especially, since we’re looking at how having a growth mindset can foster success and lead to better, brighter opportunities along the way. However, is it possible for one to change mindsets? Can you make the change at any age as in Growth Mindset for Students? Is it difficult?
Here are answers to all your questions and a 3-step process to help YOU develop a growth mindset, starting now!
1. Pay Attention to the Fixed Mindset’s Voice
Starting today, whenever you start a new task, face a challenge, encounter something different or get feedback or criticism, pay attention to what you inner voice says.
Does it say, “ You can’t do this. You don’t have the skills for it.”?
Does it say, “What if you can’t make it through. You’ll be considered a failure”?
Does it say, “ You aren’t worthy enough”?
Does it say, “ It wasn’t your fault. It was XYZ’s fault.”?
Recognize that this “voice” is your fixed mindset talking. Holding you back from achieving your full potential. Restraining you from doing what you CAN do. Prohibiting you from receiving constructive feedback to improve and locking you in a state of inertia.
2. Make a Choice and Act from a Growth Mindset Standpoint
Once you learn to pay attention to the fixed mindset ‘talking’, it is time to take action and start making the choice of perceiving and interpreting challenges, setbacks, criticism, new opportunities from a place of growth, learning, development.
Look at these as signs to improve, ramp up, grow, expand, challenge yourself to greater heights.
Dr. Carol Dweck, whose path-breaking research in the area of the Dweck Fixed Mindset and Teaching Growth Mindsets says, “People with a growth mindset believe that they can learn, change, and develop needed skills. They are better equipped to handle inevitable setbacks, and know that hard work can help them accomplish their goals.”
3. Learn to Take Action Smartly
Your brain is a muscle that grows stronger with practice. To develop a growth mindset, you need to exercise your brain to send out positive, growth messages each time you’re faced with a potential challenge or seemingly “negative” situation. Instead, of fleeing, you face up!
Feeding your brain with Growth Mindset Quotes and messages is a smart way to get started. Practice acting on growth mindset messages and you’ll soon be on your way. Want to get started?

Highlights Parenting: Interview with Dr. Carol Dweck
In this book, Carol Dweck, a Stanford University psychologist explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success–but whether we approach them with fixed or growth mindset activities.
Dweck provides a checklist, aka a Growth Mindset Test, to assess yourself and shows how a particular mindset can affect all areas of your life, from business to sports and love. According to Dweck, mindsets are not set: at any time, you can learn to use a growth mindset to achieve success and happiness. She believes that rigid thinking benefits no one, least of all yourself, and that a change of mind is always possible. And yes, we, at Mindsetmax, agree!
